Travel traffic light changes
From Monday 4 October the ‘red, amber, green’ list for international travel will change. There’ll only be a red list, and any country not on that list should enjoy relaxed travel restrictions.
Holidaymakers returning to England from a red list country must:
✓ Take a pre-departure Covid-19 test within three days of your return to England.
✓ Quarantine in a managed hotel for 10 days and take two Covid-19 tests while you’re there.
✓ Complete a passenger locator form within 48 hours of coming back.
The green and amber lists have merged into one. If you’re returning from a country not on the red list, what you do depends on whether you’re fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
If you’re fully vaccinated, you must:
✓ Take a Covid-19 test on or before your second day back in England.
✓ Complete a passenger locator form within 48 hours of coming back.
If you’re not fully vaccinated, you must:
✓ Take a pre-departure Covid-19 test within three days of your return to England.
✓ Take a Covid-19 test on your second and eighth day back in England.
✓ Complete a passenger locator form within 48 hours of coming back.
✓ Quarantine at home for 10 days.

Scotland has adopted a similar approach but won’t change their rules on pre-departure testing. Visit GOV.SCOT for more guidance.
Wales and Northern Ireland have yet to announce if they’ll adopt the same changes. For current international travel rules, visit GOV.WALES and NIDIRECT.GOV.UK.
